CD: 'a m u s i n g'

If the world ever needed a voice for the expanding "New Age" movement, that voice would without a doubt be Adrian. His songs are eclectic in style, but unified by the obvious obsession with health and happiness, as highlighted in the classic line in Tree Hugn Hippie: The only weed I touch is called Peppermint Tea!" Need further convincing? Then throw on '(Yoga's) Just Like Sex', or entertain thoughts of unifying all religions under the banner of love in 'Wake Up Now'.

Music and babies: Boasting proficiency on mandolin, guitar, bass guitar, piano, vocals (including contemporary, opera and harmonic singing), and tapdancing, Adrian has integrated music into the rearing of his first baby Kyah (front cover). For the first 4 months Kyah wouldn't sleep unless he was held in the arms of his tapdancing father. From 5-8 months it took Dad singing his original tunes or opera at full throttle to get him down, then finally the new CD arrived so that Mum could take over by just pressing play. Now (10 months) he falls asleep as soon as he sees the CD being put into the player!

The style: As with every unsigned and unconditioned artist, Adrian's style of acoustically driven music is impossible to classify within a sentance, so here's a track by track summary of content:

*'Free Like Me' & 'Times Over': Soft heartfelt pop.
Song lyric: "The only reason that angels fly is because they take themselves so lightly" appears in 'Free Like Me' with the kind permissions of Michael Leunig and Penguin Publishing.

'Cango Intro', *'Cango', 'Plenty', 'Tree Hugn Hippie',
'Beauty Comes From The Inside', *'Just Like Sex' :
Upbeat and funky

'Surf in Heaven': Chilled with a splash of overdrive

'Wake Up Now': Non Christian Gospel bee-bop

'Epitaph': Is this guy from the 60s? Tap-dancing and twisted comedy.

From the man who brought you "Tree Hugn Hippie" and coinciding with the birth of his first child (labour began in the same hour that the box of CDs arrived home!), comes a mostly mandolin driven swing EP. Writer, arranger and performer Adrian Woodhouse is a strong believer in music for health and well being - no meaningless or pointless songs! He has recently discovered the stirring power of swing, observing that elderly and children audience members dance to the swing tunes, and rest for the rock songs! Why swing? Adrian would say that the heart beats swing - the children remember the beat from the womb and the oldies reconnect with early memories.

Track 1: 'Best For You'

Finalist in the Australian Songwriting Association's 25th Annual Songwriting Competition 2005, open category. This song racks the changes in perspective from the eyes of a young boy, a middle aged man, and an old man, with vocal performances from Adrian's father and nephew.

Inspired by Adrian's father's recent bout of melanoma, and the desire to get him recorded on a CD before the inevitable occurs.

* Track 2: 'Beauty Comes From the Inside'

Big vocal and brass arrangements, on emerging from the haze of self doubt, and daring to reach out toward hidden potential.

Track 3: 'When You're Small'

Light-hearted jazz, with mandolin, melodica, flute, and tap-dancing! Written when Adrian was asked to do a "Small" slot at a festival. He dressed as a midget and customised jazz standards to suit the occasion e.g.. "Small of Me", and "When I'm Four Foot Four!"

* Track 4: 'Once Again the People'

A melancholic reaction to the disappointing 2004 Australian federal election result, addressing the issues of Tasmania's dwindling forests, the lack of empathy for Australia's precious indigenous population, abominable treatment of refugees, and the unjustified war that only three men in the world chose to wage. A song that emerged from the feeling that people who care about the most precious thing on earth - LIFE! - are seemingly a minority group in our 'advanced' culture.

* CD Single: 'Tree Hugn Hippie'

Inspired by people's stereotypical reaction to his dreadlocked hair and free-spirited persona, 'Tree Hugn Hippie' is a song of self definition, written "to dispel the myths of what you think I might be" A humorous, yet serious summary of the life and principles of a true nature lover and purist. Followed by 'Plenty', the fertility song, an honouring of nature and the awesome powers of the universe (It worked - Adrian's partner Rachael is due to have their first baby in December 2004!)
